This very popular journey through Cuba has been carefully created to give the opportunity to explore virtually the whole island over a 2 week holiday. However the Archipelago Choice way is to be really flexible and of course if you do have the possibility to stretch the holiday out a few extra days, then we can certainly tailor the itinerary to suit your wishes. This might allow you the chance to extend a little and immerse yourself into Cuba’s rich history in a colonial town , or enjoy more outdoor activities in the spectacular country areas. If you can add a few extra days and wish to look at extending the holiday further then we can of course make some recommendations

Over 14 nights this holiday certainly totally immerses you into Cuba and visits all the major locations from west to east and back again. There are some interesting and unique activities and great dining experiences at hand picked privately run restaurants. Listen to iconic live Cuban music throughout the holiday and experience the mountains , the three largest and most important colonial cities and more !

All our holidays can be fully guided throughout, or you can travel a little more independently and book a local guide for each visit or activity that you choose to enjoy. You can then use our private transfer service to move between each destination and add in free days for your own pursuits.

Spend time  in Cuba’s capital city Havana, with the chance to cruise the streets in a chauffeur driven old American car. Visit a real working cigar factory and  immerse yourself in historic Old Havana. Head to the peace and quiet of Vinales Valley and be guided gently  through the spectacular scenery of this UNESCO preserved heritage region.

Heading into central Cuba the holiday then focuses on the famous small colonial cities, with visits to Che Guevara’s mausoleum at the revolutionary city of Santa Clara and Trinidad , regarded by many as a living museum.

Heading East, the landscape stays very flat and agricultural until you reach the imposing Sierra Maestra mountains and then you are in Oriente and it all gets a little more wild and interesting . This region of Cuba is much less visited and here at Archipelago Choice we love it ! Visit the mountains and meet the local folk and seek out La Plata, Fidel Castros secret camp that the authorities never found . Advance on Santiago De Cuba , with its music vibe ,  Caribbean soul and where Fidel Castro’s simple mausoleum can be visited.

Enjoy a short breather on an idyllic and absolutely beautiful beach and you must have a sunrise or sunset stroll along the beach as its magical.

Head west now back via Camaguey and onto Sancti Spiritus a colonial city which uniquely has a river running through it and then onto Cienfuegos overlooking the Caribbean Sea . During these last few days you can also swim in the natural pools below waterfalls in the mountains and get up close to a Flamboyance of Flamingos !

Your holiday finishes back in Havana and your last night could include dressing up for the famous Tropicana cabaret, or dressing down for a hot passionate night with the big band sounds of the Legends of Cuban music .

Itinerary

Your fascinating tour through Cuba starts at the airport and do stock up on retail therapy before boarding your flight to Havana. After a warm welcome a private transfer will take you to your chosen accommodation in Old Havana. Depending on the time of arrival, you may be able to wander through the local area and sample Havana’s amazing street life before retiring to bed ready for the holiday ahead.
A full and busy day today to make the most of Havana, starting with a visit to one of Havana’s fascinating working cigar factories, to see how Cuba’s famous cigar brands are still hand made by the local workers. Immerse into Havana's rich history with a visit to one of the city's museums, choose the City Museum , Fine Arts Museum or Havana Club Rum museum and we await the reopening of the Museum of the Revolution with bated breath. Enjoy your first Cuban lunch in one of our favourite traditional restaurants in Old Havana, before walking off lunch with a guided stroll . Visit the four main historical squares, enjoy the atmosphere and amazing vibrancy and explore the narrow bustling streets . Our guide will ensure you have seen the sights but also hidden and fascinating locations away from the normal visitors trail. An Old American vintage car awaits to be chauffeur driven through the city in a vehicles dating back to the 50s, a thrilling way to enjoy this unique city. Stop at the impressive Revolution Square overlooked by the mural of Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara and pass the elegant mansions in Miramar district before ending the tour with a thrilling drive along the Malecon oceanfront promenade. Maybe head to our favourite tapas bar, for an authentic Cuban cocktail making lesson and homemade tapas will be provided for a light meal.
Leaving Havana for a 3 hour drive to the picturesque Vinales Valley, to experience its outstanding natural beauty. On arrival you can enjoy a private tour of the valley with one of our passionate Vinales team of guides and visit a typical tobacco farm, meet the farmer and the drying houses which form the initial step of how the tobacco leaves are turned into the world's best cigars. Enjoy a subterranean boat ride through the El Indio cave system and an unique lunch can be served at a local organic farm overlooking Silencio Valley., one of our favourite places to eat in Cuba! In the late afternoon you can head to Las Terrazas National Park and on arrival we can have a local guide ready for a short tour and an insight into the sustainable farming practices that take place here. You can stay tonight at simple but comfortable lodge style hotel located above the small village at the reserve.
After breakfast, you can head towards Santa Clara, a city of major revolutionary significance in Cuba. Visit the final resting place of Che Guevara at the very symbolic mausoleum with time to visit the museum dedicated to his life. Also visit Tren Blindado ,the government train that was attacked by Che Guevara and his revolutionaries, a significant turning point in the Cuba Revolution. Take the picturesque road through the foothills of the Escambray Mountains with a stop at Sugar Mill Valley, a silent witness to Cuba’s historical links with slavery. Soon after arriving to Trinidad, one of the most delightful places in Cuba ,we can book dinner for you tonight in a favourite local restaurant.
Enjoy a guided walking tour of the centre of Trinidad this morning and maybe take in one of the museums dedicated to the history of the area . Do try the unique Trinidad rum and sugar cane drink at La Canchanchara, an old house dating back to the 18th Century. Perhaps this afternoon take a taxi to the nearby Caribbean beach of Playa Ancon to enjoy the beach and perhaps stay for the sunset. Dancing to local live music is a must so feel free to head to the main square for some authentic excellent live music and dancing .
Continue east today travelling initially along the foothills of the Escambray and then through the agricultural flatlands of central Cuba to Camaguey. This city is known for its abundance of churches and delightful pedestrianised colonial centre with a maze of alleyways and shaded plazas. Enjoy the city for a few hours and then continue east to Bayamo, known locally as ‘La Heroica’ due to its long history of revolutionary battles against the Spanish Enjoy an evening stroll and stay overnight in Bayamo.
Continuing deep into the Sierra Maestra Mountains, passing small farmhouses and villages with wonderful mountain scenery. Later in the morning arrive at the small hamlet nestling deep in the mountains with views to Cuba’s highest and most sacred mountain, Pico Turquino. After lunch a jeep can take you higher into the mountains to then walk to La Plata, the Fidel Castro’s secret revolutionary base. Visit Fidel’s cabin and the radio station from where they launched the Revolution. You can stay in the mountains tonight and enjoy some traditional home cooked Cuban cuisine.
Today you can journey to Santiago de Cuba, a city of crucial importance throughout Cuba’s history, stopping en route at El Cobre, a picturesque church in the mountains and Cuba’s most sacred pilgrimage site On arrival enjoy some free time to relax after clocking up some miles on the journey east
Enjoy a guided tour of Santiago De Cuba today and visit the Moncada Barracks, the location of the start of the revolution on 26th July 1953. Also visit Parque Cespedes, surrounded by historic buildings, where Fidel gave his victory speech and Santa Ifigenia Cemetery where his simple, but powerful mausoleum is ceremonially guarded 24 hours a day. Head to the coast for panoramic views and and al fresco dining at Castillo del Morro the fortress with lovely views across the Caribbean Sea to the Sierra Maestra. This evening do please go to Casa De La Trova a simple and famous live music club, once visited by a famous Beatle who enjoyed an open mic night with the locals,
Heading north across the island make a stop at the tiny village of Biran, the birthplace of Fidel and Raul Castro. Visit their country house and learn about their simple and unassuming childhoods. Journey to Guardalavaca, a stunning beach setting which will provide a beautiful backdrop for a couple of nights rest during your Cuban adventure.
Today will be totally free, so you can relax, enjoy a well-deserved rest, and enjoy the facilities of your chosen hotel.
Heading back to the west you can travel towards Camaguey and- have a short break before continuing to Sancti Spiritus, one of the smaller colonial cities in Cuba which uniquely has a river running through the city. Enjoy an overnight in this quiet city after what has been a long journey from the east.
You can visit Cienfuegos today with a detour en route to the El Nicho waterfalls. Bring your swimming gear for a cooling dip in the natural mountain pools. As you approach Cienfuegos the botanical gardens are well worth a visit, housing one of the largest collections of trees and plants in the Americas . On arrival in Cienfuegos there could be time for a stroll through the colonial centre and along the seafront at sunset .
Its the last full day of the holiday and it can start with and early morning visit to see a Flamboyance of Flamingos in their natural habitat before continuing to the Bay of Pigs, the site of the failed CIA backed invasion of Cuba, repelled by Fidel and Che and their revolutionaries. Visit the small museum that proudly gives Cuba's version of events and there will be time for a walk along the beach. Continuing to Havana and your last night could include a special meal in one of our favourite private restaurants or head out to a performance by ‘Legendarios de Guajirito’, this outstanding band is made with former members of the Buena Vista Social Club and the Afro-Cuban All Stars. Or visit the world-famous Tropicana open air cabaret show that dates back the 1930’s,
